Oregon Historical Society is hosting a celebratory exhibit called “50 Years of KBOO.” The modest exhibit marks 50 years of community radio, from the station that put weird on the map.
“50 Years of KBOO” runs through July 27, 2018 at the Oregon Historical Society Museum, in Portland OR. If you can’t make it in person you should check out the exhibit website, which features most of the displays, along with archival audio, photos and downloadable version of the exhibit catalog. https://www.50yearsofkboo.fm
KBOO is Portland’s longest-running independent, noncommercial, listener-supported community radio station. @ https://kboo.fm
KBOO was founded in 1968 as a 10 watt station with a donated closet studio, a $600/year operating budget, one staff and a handful of volunteers. Since then KBOO has grown to 26,500 watts, owns its 5,000 square foot building, has an annual operating budget of about $800,000, a staff of 14 with radio broadcast expertise, and more than 500 volunteers.
